Misconceptions about Evolution

|February 12, 2009 is the 200th anniversary of the birthday of Charles Darwin. This year is also the 150th anniversary of the publication of 'On The Origin of Species'. Even though so much time has passed and all mainstream scientific knowledge since then has caused the theory to become more robust - misconceptions still abound. There are a number of reasons why people might have objections to evolution - and if you feel that evolution is not a valid theory or think that the current scientific thinking regarding evolution is in error - that is fine. Sploofus is not the place for debate on this issue. The internet is filled with many more appropriate sites where this topic can be debated.|
The point of this quiz is not to convince anyone, one way or the other, whether they should accept the theory or not. The point of the quiz is to cover what the current mainstream scientific establishment feels are both common misconceptions that some people have regarding evolution, as well as, what they consider valid arguments for evolution. Whether you agree with the current mainstream scientific point-of-view or not - I think it is important for everyone on both sides of the issue to understand what the scientific community is putting forth on this topic.
Here is a quiz devoted to the misconceptions and why they are misconceptions, from the perspective of the current scientific thinking. How well do you understand the Theory of Evolution? Take this quiz and find out.
The list of misconceptions about evolution comes from Scientific American.
PLEASE NOTE: This is a very wordy quiz - so if you are looking for a short, fast quiz, this is not for you, but if you have a few minutes to spare, I think you will enjoy this quiz.
