My initials have always had some psychic and some literal connections to the rest of my so-called life. From the sociological coding prevalent in my youth to the academic dreams of my parents to perceived bonds with some of my favorite actors and authors, the initials JD have stuck with me through thick and thin. For the last 25 years they have nestled on my right arm, tatooed initials hovering over a heart (with no initials below) to signify unrequited love.
