My Life as a John and Welcome to It !

|If anything, my given name of John has been the most solid part of my so-called life. For one thing, I was named John twice! As I discovered viewing my adoption certificate at the age of 13, in addition to my adoptive parents baptizing me with it, it was my birth name as well. The name has resonated, sometimes irritatingly, often warmly, with other "Johns". For the past 6 years, one of my favorite Johns has nestled on my right forearm (see quiz photo). |
As a Baby Boomer, I grew up with a lot of other Johns. It seemed to be the most common of names. But despite a brief surge in the years following the assassination of John F. Kennedy, the name John has actually been declining in popularity. According to a number of sites, John currently ranks 20th among male names (U.S.), it was 3rd when I was born in 1947 and ranked first at the turn of the 20th century.
Herewith presented for your trivial pleasure are my recollections of John and Johns, in all their personifications and meanings, liberally sprinkled with fellow Baby Boomers or Boomer era icons. As with most of my quizzes, they are built for reading and not built for speed demons!
Good luck and thanks for coming along for the ride.
