Much controversy has surrounded the selection of US President Barack Obama to receive the 2009 Nobel Peace Prize. The main controversy has centered around his not having had time to prove his worth for the award.

Unlike the other Nobel Prizes in which scientists, doctors, and other recipients must wait years to see the effect of their discoveries and efforts, the Peace Prize has traditionally been give very quickly after the actions of the recipient, sometime to controversial individuals.
