Patricia Lee Smith a/k/a Patti Smith has been called the "high priestess of punk" and the "poet laureate of punk". She is generally considered to be one of rock's most influential artists. "Rolling Stone" ranked her at #47 in its list of the 100 Greatest Artists of All Time. In March 2007, she was inducted into the Rock and roll Hall of Fame.
