Pop Hit Recidivists - 9
![]() |
It's not unusual for a pop tune to be a hit more than once for different recording artists. In fact, it used to be common. The #1 song of 1946, for instance, was 'To Each His Own', the first hit in his multi-Oscar career by my fellow Pittsburgher Jay Livingston and his partner Ray Stone, and was a hit by SEVEN different artists, including at least two instrumental versions, all in the year of 1946. Today, occasionally there'll be a hit by someone that is a simple 'remake' of a previously charted hit. In fact, in the 50s, that was sometimes planned and called a 'cover' version. Singers like Linda Rondstadt and Bette Midler have made a very good living out of such recycling. In this quiz, I will give you the names of at least THREE artists who had Top 40 hits (and by now, I might stretch this rule a little, perhaps using the Adult Contemporary Chart, or a recording that had significant radio airplay, but peaked below #40) with the same tune. You have to come up with the title they have in common. Think derivatively, now...
