Protest Songs Vol. 2: The 70s and Beyond
![]() |
From its roots in folk music, protest music has spread out across the genres to make some of the strongest, most durable musical statements we know. Let's take a look at some of the music that has shaped our society. An earlier quiz focused on protest music up to 1970, and this one covers some more recent songs and artists. By 1970, the Vietnam War and the social upheaval of the 60s were cresting, and many of the protest songs began taking on specific issues. I will describe ten songs or artists, give you a taste of their lyrics, and then you will be asked to name the artist who wrote, performed, or made famous that music. The information used to put this quiz together comes from all over the place. A fair amount of the backbone of this quiz was constructed through Wikipedia, and a variety of lyrics sites provided (surprise!) the lyrics.
