|The insect-eaters were the very first mammals that developed back in prehistoric times - right under the noses of the dinosaurs. They were all small (to hide from the massive reptiles), warm-blooded (so they could be active in the cooler nights, when the dinosaurs weren't) and ate enormous amounts comparative to their size (to keep the internal 'boilers' going).
