|Richard Pryor had a tragic youth he was one of four children raised in his grandmother's brothel, suffered abuse at the hands' of others at a young age and even suffered the indignity of watching his mother "work" at the brothel. |
Finding solace at the movies, even if it was from the segregated rows at his local cinema, Pryor idolized such actors as John Ford and Howard Hawks, hoping one day to become a star like them. However, at the tender age of 14 Pryor was expelled from school and served the world in many jobs, ranging from shoe shine to janitor at a strip club.
His life in 1950's America, and several run-ins with the Police and even a spell or two in the "big-house" has given Pryor his own view of life which he has been able to use to his advantage and enabled him to bring his wonderfully twisted comedy. In his own words "I ain't dead yet,..."
