"An island that is not really an island." It was designed as a military installation during World War II. After the war, the island was abandoned. A family of squatters claimed it as their own. The island has a constitution, its own currency, passports and stamps. It even has a motto: E Mare Liberatas. The English translation is "From the Sea, Freedom".
