Smithology – can you tell one Smith from another?

garryblGarrybl on 10/05/2006

SmithologycanyoutelloneSmithfromanother Photo How tough a quiz can this be? I’m giving you the answers already! Each of the quotes -- some of which will raise a chuckle, I hope – were spoken or written by a person called Smith. The catch is that you have to identify which Smith uttered the quotation. All of the people listed as possible answers are not only real, they have quotations to their name in reputable collections of quotes.
If you are looking for a clue from the picture, I included it only because it amused me to see that P G Wodehouse’s Psmith has been translated into Russian… the name on the front cover is Wodehouse in Cyrillic script, I guess.
