Society of Friends (Quakers) In the United States
![]() |
The handsome fellow depicted in the drawing that introduces this quiz is generally credited by historians as the founder of the Religious Society of Friends (customarily called, simply, the Society of Friends), whose members are commonly called Quakers. The Quakers have been very influential in the history of the United States - having assumed leadership roles in the abolition and women's suffrage movements, as well as leadership in opposition to militarism, which, of course, is a battle yet to be won by the pacifist Quakers. This quiz covers the Quaker experience in the United States, encompassing initial persecution to eventual accomplishment, as well as asking about some historically significant Quakers. Although theology is addressed in this quiz, it focuses on historical Quakerism in the United States.
