Some Famous Dead of the Pere Lachaise Cemetery

The Pere Lachaise Cemetery is the largest cemetery in Paris. It occupies almost 120 acres and is the home to 300,000 bodies, and the cremated remains of many more at the cemetery's columbarian. The cemetery, then outside the Paris city limits, was established by Napoleon in 1804. The photo introducing this quiz is of Communards' Wall located inside of Pere Lachaise Cemetery where in 1871, 147 combatants of the Paris Commune who were taken prisoner by the army were shot against the wall. The wall remains a honored monument of the French left.
In this quiz, you are asked to identify from the information provided in each question the famous person interred in the famous Pere Lachaise Cemetery. Like my so far much under-appreciated quiz, "Art Heists: A Pastiche of Purloined Paintings", this quiz has a more "international" orientation than many of my quizzes, with the majority of answers being European departed. For the American nationalists among you, however, I promise that some American stiffs are also featured. All of these departed remain famous in their specialties within the general field of the arts and humanities.
