Among the Famous Dead of Montparnasse Cemetery

The Cimetiere de Montparnasse (Montparnasse Cemetery) was established in 1824 on the site of three farms then outside the city limits of Paris. Roughly half the size of the more famous Pere Lachaise Cemetery, like that cemetery it is now the home of many famous dead folk. In this quiz, you are asked to identify ten people whose remains are now resident of the Montparnasse Cemetery from the biographical information provided in each question. These people come from a variety of fields, but more were known for writing than any other single reason. The famous dead presented in this quiz are nationals of many different countries, including the United States. Because of the large number of famous dead at the Montparnasse Cemetery, like the Pere Lachaise Cemetery, it is a popular tourist destination in Paris. I intend to cover some famous dead at one other cemetery in Paris, the Montmarte Cemetery, in a future quiz.
The photograph that accompanies this quiz is of the cemetery plot at which the famous writers and philosophers, Jean-Paul Sartre and Simone de Beauvoir are interred.
