In Australia they are called 'sunnies', while in Scotland they are called 'gecks'. A generic term for them is 'dark glasses', but in India they are called 'glares' if the glass is dark, and 'coolers' if it is light. No matter what the name, sunglasses are used all over the world. Eyecare professionals recommend their use to protect the eyes from ultraviolet light whenever one is outside, thus reducing the risk of the development of cataracts.
