|Epilepsy is one of the most misunderstood conditions of all time. During the last few decades greater attention has been paid to the quality of life for those with epilepsy. However, it is hard to change attitudes and social stigma and discrimination still exists.|
Ancint Romans believed epilepsy was contagious while during the middle ages epilepsy was called the falling sickness and people relied on saints and talismen for cures. In the late 1600s one could be imprisoned for having epilepsy while in modern times people were not allowed to marry or have children.
