The August 2007 edition of Parents magazine conducted a 41-question survey of aquariums throughout the country, to determine which the best ones were for kids. Based on research that, according to the US Fish and Wildlife Service, “shows that hands-on features—like opportunities to touch marine life—sustain interest, spark learning and create a fun visit for the whole family” the survey evaluated the number of interactive features of each aquarium as well as their creativity and educational aspects. Other considerations included the quality and child-friendliness, services (were there changing stations?), staff and educators, special programs for groups and families, and the conservation efforts.
