The Baby Boomer's Guide to 1950s Sports
![]() |
Whether you accept the 1946-1964 era as the Baby Boomer timeline or, as some observers argue, the period 1942-1953, for us the 1950s was the first decade to shape our view of the world. I was born in 1947, spending my formative years in the "City That Never Sleeps". For me, a large part of the 1950s in New York was shaped by my father's hand, as he introduced me to spectator sports with visits to Yankee Stadium, the old Madison Square Garden, Michie Stadium, and the Polo Grounds, among other sites. A Greek immigrant, my father knew little of the sports to which he escorted me, except that they would be important to any child growing up in his adopted country. Television, and my trusty transistor radio, kept me hooked the rest of the way. And now they've crept into my fantasy life! If you enjoy this quiz, please try my other film and TV quizzes!
