A person who has lived to be 100 years old or older is called a centenarian. Such longevity has always been considered rare, but is becoming less so. The United States Social Security Administration reports that over the past forty years, the number of people reaching 100 has increased tenfold, so that now one in fifty American women and one in two hundred American men reach that age.
