The Greatest Years in Film History: 1942
Newyorkgoomba on 04/21/2008
|There are memorable films. There are film eras that evoke heights for a particular genre or genres. And rarely, there are single years that elicit an amazing body of work in themselves and stand out to lovers of film of all ages. |
1942 was one of those years, perhaps surprisingly, coming as it did in the midst of America's first year of war with the Axis powers. Patriotism and war time propaganda themes were woven through the fabric of many screenplays, but the best of those efforts survived as significant cinematic achievements. This series, which will highlight years such as 1940, 1939, 1962, 1967 and more recent years, will seek to include global cinema and not just the work of U.S. filmmakers.
So, get your organic popcorn and lowfat butter, grab an iced green tea and snuggle next to your domestic partner, we're going to the movies!
