The Historic PBS Concert: Doo Wop 50
![]() |
On May 11 & 12, 1999, PBS taped two wonderful evenings of music at The Benedum Center for the Performing Arts in Pittsburgh. Produced by T.J. Lubinsky and Henry DeLuca, this historic concert celebrated 50 years of Doo Wop music with each group meeting the criteria of having at least one suriving original member in the performance. It became the biggest fundraiser in PBS's history and helped revive the careers of many of the artists who had not performed in over 40 years. Some were living in poverty and obscurity, but now have regained the respect and status they deserve and most are working their craft again on the oldies circuit. If you watched Doo Wop 50 or were a young person during its heyday, you should enjoy this quiz and learn some little known insider facts about these performers!
