Firstly, absolutely no irreverance is intended by the use of 'Fuzzy Wuzzy' in the quiz title. This was, simply, the contemporary name given to the British Empire's wars against massed tribes as opposed to more modern armies. (And, frankly, I think I'd rather oppose machine guns any day!). And the fascination, to me, is how recent these were. This last, against massed tribes (some 60,000 of 'em) as opposed to later much smaller-scale skirmishes, was a mere 16 years prior to WWI! This was the 'Nile War', the albeit rather late 'revenge' for Gordon of Khartoum, etc. And it all happened almost yesterday. My own grandfather remembered it well. And, as is one of my more stupid hobbies in following historical trails, I followed this campaign trail from Egypt and down into the Sudan in the 1990s. So if you're as fascinated as I in this last of the 'guns v. spears' epics, read on. I'll keep the questions & answers fairly general, for non-Empire history addicts! If you're already bored stiff, just go back to BBS!
