The Number 12: A Star in its Own Right!
Newyorkgoomba on 02/24/2009
|2009's recently celebrated Friday the 13th, the first of three such days during this calendar year, has served to further obscure its immediate precedent, the less sexier but arguably more significant, number 12. In popular culture the number 12 has long lived as the poorer cousin of 13. Devoid of clinical appellations of fear, such as "triskaidekaphobia" (fear of the number 13) or even the more acute "paraskavedekatriaphobia" (fear of Friday the 13th), 12 has languished next to the number that succeeds it. Even among the usually level-headed and equanimous occupiers of the baking profession, 12 slips surreptiously into 13, as in a "baker's dozen." Adding further insult to injury, during the current global recession, "Chapter 13" is taking on added resonance. But enough of 13, here's to 12! |
As numerologists will gladly testify, 12 needs to be celebrated as a complete number, an indicator of things significant in areas large and small, from religion to the measurement of time.
