Editor's Award Winner

This quiz has received an Editor's Award for excellent content. Only the most unique and well written quizzes are eligible for this award.

TheReligionofInfluentialComicBookSuperheroes Photo This quiz will focus on what are perhaps the 10 most influential super-heroes in comic book culture. Specifically the focus of the text here will revolve around the religion of these fictional characters. For the most part comic book publishers and writers don't employ religion very much in a character's backstory; it's a fairly taboo area, especially in mainstream superhero comics. In fact, some might argue, that comic books show an unrealistic lack of attention toward their characters' religions. But perhaps this is simply a tactic to not alienate fans.

However, that being said, if one pores over the mounds of material that exist surrounding many of these characters, one can find clues and references here and there that add up to determining what some of these super-heroes' religious beliefs are. Some supporting evidence of these particular religious affiliations will be cited here for the likes of Superman, Batman, Wonder Woman, Spider-man, Captain America, Captain Marvel, Plastic-Man, The Incredible Hulk, The Green Lantern, and The Silver Surfer.

The questions will either ask you to identify each character's religion, or will mention what their religion is and then just ask you a little something else more trivia-like about the character.

Big acknowledgment to the web site for most of the information supplied in this matter.

It's a novel concept, and I actually would have designated it as "deserving on the Editor's Award", but there were a few big problems:

* "Zenn-La" isn't the Silver Surfer's "native land." It's his home planet.

* The wrong Captain Marvel appears in the graphic.

* Green Lantern actually has the ability to do ALL those things. The only limits on the capabilities of his ring are his imagination and his willpower.

* There actually is an official, stated reason why they changed Bruce Banner's name to "David" for the prime time TV show. It was because the name "Bruce" had stereotypical homosexual implications. (I never said it was a GOOD reason. But yes, that is why they changed it for TV.)

* MOST IMPORTANTLY..."Irish" does NOT immediately imply "Catholic." Don't you know anything about the schism between Catholicism and Protestantism in Ireland? It's just one of many reasons for the legendary "troubles."

If you can have as good an idea as this and get the facts right, I just might give that one a thumbs up. Good effort, though.
