The See-through Wonder - Glass and its Origins
Berylm on 08/16/2008
|One of the wonders of the modern age is - glass. Not just the thick, slightly wavy panes of a few inches across that they've been producing to cover windows for ages, but enormous, completely flat, practically invisible, often toughened sheets of the stuff that has not an imperfection in sight - and nowadays it can react to light and even be self-cleaning! Everyone knows that glass is just (!) melted sand, but there's quite a bit more to the process for manufacturing the modern version than that. So how much do you know - or remember - about the subject?|
Questions are not short, and information from a couple of very interesting TV documentaries on the subject, and some internet research to back it up.
