Top 20 Socialites of All Time (#20 thru 11)
![]() |
New York Magazine consulted several experts on the New York social scene to help determine this list of the top 20 socialites of all time...those who "codified snobbery" and "made careers out of fame" but who also along the way may or may not have done something terrific. New York Magazine's panel of judges included Virginia Coleman, a partner at HWPR; Chris Meigher, the chairman and CEO of Quest; Bob Morris, the wroter and New York Times Sunday "Styles" columnist; Charlie Scheips, a historian, and Caroline Weber, also a historian and author of "Queen of Fashion: What Marie Antoinette Wore to the Revolution." Please rate the quiz afterward if you get the chance. Thanks! Good Luck, Bill

You'd think they would change their names, some of them. Nan Kempner is not exactly mellifluous, and Muffie Potter Aston. Brooke Astor sounds the best to me.
