TributeToBillAnderson Photo Bill Anderson was named James William Anderson III at birth, born on Nov. l, l937 in Columbia, South Carolina. He did a lot of recitations in his songs, earning him the nickname of "Whispering Bill". He learned to play the guitar at the age of l2 and had his own school band. He graduated college at the University of Georgia. Bill Anderson composed hits for Jim Reeves, Mickey Gilley, Conway Twitty and others. He was inducted into the Country Music Hall of Fame in 200l.
