A UNESCO (United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization) World Heritage Site can be many things, such as mountain, forest, lake, desert, building, city, etc. There are 890 of them worldwide. The sites are places of either cultural or physical significance. They are the property of the country in which they reside, but are considered to be of great importance to the whole international community. This and a second quiz will recognize the 20 UNESCO sites in the U.S.

If I hadn't started so late, I think I would have made it a life ambition to collect UNESCO sites - like a birder's life list. I've only been to 4 on this quiz, but a bunch elsewhere. I'm embarrassed to say that I never looked up the US sites. Thanks for tuning me in!
