This album by the Mothers of Invention is an obvious parody of Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Heart Club Band by the Beatles. Zappa panned the Beatles' album as "co-opting the flower power aesthetic for monetary gain". He told Rolling Stone Magazine he believed "they were only in it for the money." Thus the theme of this album. Oddly enough, Paul McCartney highly respected Zappa and unaware of this comment, he said "This is going to be our Freak Out!" So, what is the real importance of this album. The Library of Congress chose it in 2005 as one of only 50 albums that would be added to their "National Recordings Registry". Let's take a trip through Zappa's parody of Sgt. Pepper's. This is going to be a tough quiz. Even though I am not only in it for the points and rating, I hope you will treat it with kindness.
