The Miss America pageant, originally called the Atlantic City pageant, is an American tradition which was created as a way for Atlantic City businessmen to keep tourists in Atlantic City after Labor Day. What started out as nothing more than a promotional gimmick in September 1921 has developed into the largest scholarship provider to women in the world. Over the years, dozens of intelligent and talented women, including Grammy, Tony, and Emmy nominated singer/actress Vanessa Williams and former Catwoman Lee Meriwether, have worn the coveted crown. In the alternative universe of this quiz, it is September 1773 and the Miss America Pageant is about to be held in the colonies. Although the first white man to build a permanent structure in what would later be called Atlantic City will not do so for twelve more years, the Lenni-Lenape Indians have graciously allowed us to hold our pageant on their island. Women representing each one of the original colonies will participate in this competition - including Miss Betsy Ross. Watch Betsy compete in the different stages of this Colonial-style pageant while you answer historically relevant trivia questions.
