This quiz is for those of you who are familiar with Lord of the Rings. The questions relate to the unusual nature of the Shire - namely those commonplace items in the Shire that, while not really anachronisms, are clearly aspects of a typical English lifestyle, and show that Tolkien's idea of Middle Earth was really a small rural English village surrounded by a world full of everything magical. In these questions, taken from early on in Lord of the Rings (mainly around the time of Bilbo's birthday party), try to identify the typical modern, English, unmagical items that characterise the Shire. (Please note - I think these questions are dreadfully easy, but then I've read the book over 20 times!)
