The greatest of all is a subjective argument considering that “greatest” has different interpretations. Is it a matter of most gold medals won? Most overall medals won? Overcoming the greatest obstacles? Accomplishing the feats over the longest period of time or most Olympic Games? How does Jackie Joyner-Kersee rate with her 6 medals (gold in 1988 and 1992) in the heptathlon and long jump, spanning 4 Games from 1984 to 1996? Or Al Oerter's 4 consecutive gold medals in the discus throw from 1956 to 1968? Or the century's greatest athlete Jim Thorpe, who won gold in BOTH multi-event disciplines, the decathlon AND pentathlon at the 1912 Olympics? Well here is a list of potential candidates and the reasons one might make a case for each one. Let the debate continue as you consider these great Olympic athletes. Some of the questions have lengthy background stories describing the scenarios in which the athletes were involved. Please forgive this indulgence. excellent quiz
Great quiz! Lousy score for me hehehe but a couple of them I second-guessed myself. In any event, the quiz brought back some great moment for me.
