I’ll give you a clue, for an answer that consists of two parts, which may come in either order. One half of the clue will be a Roman numeral, which may or may not be scrambled. The other half is a (not very) cryptic crossword clue. The clue for the Roman numeral element will be a number (such as 106) and the answer will involve only the numbers used in the standard Roman numerals – I V X L C D M (for 1, 5, 10, 50, 100, 500, 1000) plus O for zero – yes, I know that is an anachronism but it is my puzzle!
For example the clue ‘106 on an English and French indefinite article’ could clue VIC-UNA. Note that 106 could be CVI, CIV, or any arrangment of these three elements.
The whole word will NOT be clued -- just the two halves.
MID would be 1501 not 1499 by the way – there are no subtractive numbers in this puzzle.
